Licence, card and driver age in Qatar, plus a live control that shows which cars hold nothing.
Five things decide whether you walk out of a Doha counter with keys. One of them is a number this page can read from the live list. The other four are documents, and the rest of the page is about getting them to agree.
36
cars in the window counted here place no hold at all
That is the single most useful fact on this page. A rate that blocks nothing removes the card authorisation from the handover completely, which is why the grid further down opens on exactly those cars.
Search available carsA credit card in the main driver\'s name is the norm in Qatar, carried as a physical card because the hold goes against the card itself.
Your home licence and an International Driving Permit, presented together. The permit is a translation and is no use on its own.
A Qatari licence is what a resident is normally asked for, and residency makes the paperwork shorter rather than longer.
Commonly 21 to 25 in Qatar, set by the class of car rather than the country, with the larger groups sitting at the upper end.
A handover in Doha is really a check that three documents describe the same person: the licence, the payment card and the booking. Two of them are editorial matters that no search tool can settle for you. The third, the money blocked against the card, is the one piece of this that arrives as real data, which is why it is the only thing the control on this page is willing to filter on.
The deposit attached to a car is the same figure whoever books it. What moves is the set of documents the counter expects, and in Qatar that turns mostly on whether you live here. Find yourself below, then use the control underneath to see what the live list leaves you.
The short-stay visitor route: home licence, International Driving Permit, credit card in your own name, and a booking in that same name. Nothing about arriving at DOH changes the deposit itself, so the figure attached to the car is the figure you plan around.
A resident is generally expected to produce a Qatari licence rather than a permit, and residency usually makes the paperwork simpler rather than harder. The card expectation does not soften, so a resident using a debit card runs into the same question a visitor does.
Regional travellers arriving by road already have their own vehicle in most cases, so the rentals here tend to be second cars for a family trip. The booking still has to name the person who will sign, which is easy to forget when one member of the group organises everything.
Long rentals magnify the hold rather than the daily rate: money blocked for a weekend is an inconvenience, and money blocked for a month is a budget. Of the cars in the window counted on this page, 36 place nothing at all, which is the simplest answer to a long booking.
The bars show where the live fleet actually places its deposits, and the slider sets your ceiling. The count underneath is arithmetic on real figures from the feed for your dates, not an average typed in by hand. Be clear about what it does and does not do: the deposit is real data and the filtering is real, while the card and age rows beneath it are editorial notes on what is typical in Qatar. The control deliberately does not filter on those, because that would be us inventing a guarantee about a supplier we cannot see.
The combination the local market is written around, and the one that raises the fewest questions at handover. Bring the physical card rather than a phone wallet, since the hold is placed against the card. If the name on the card, the name on the licence and the name on the booking all read the same, the card part of the check is usually over in a moment.
Some suppliers here will work with one and some will not, and those that do often attach a condition such as a larger hold or a compulsory cover product. We are not going to tell you that a named supplier will take yours, because their terms change and we cannot read them at the moment you book. Check the card line shown with the car, treat the voucher as the authority, and remember that a zero deposit rate sidesteps the question completely.
A few listings here mark the deposit as payable in cash at handover rather than blocked on a card, and where that is offered it is stated on the listing itself. Prepaid and virtual cards, and any card belonging to a person who is not the main driver, are the ones most likely to be refused. Plan around that rather than hoping: book a car with no hold, or put the cardholder on the booking as the driver.
Below the floor almost everywhere in this market. A driver under 21 will generally not be handed keys even with a paid booking in hand, so check the age line against the car before you pay rather than at the counter.
The band where the answer depends on the car. Minimum age in Qatar commonly sits anywhere from 21 to 25 according to the class, so a compact automatic and a large SUV from the same supplier can set different floors. A young driver surcharge is common in this band and is usually collected at the desk rather than included online, so ask for it as a daily figure and multiply it by your rental length.
The band standard terms are written for, and the band that opens the premium end of the list, which is unusually deep in Qatar. The remaining condition is normally about the licence rather than the driver: a period held since the issue date, plus the permit or Qatari licence question covered higher up this page.
The ceiling filters on deposit figures that come from the live feed, so that number is real. Card type and driver age are not in that feed. The rows above are editorial notes on what is typical in Qatar rather than a filter, and nothing on this page is a promise that a particular supplier will accept a particular card or a particular driver. The terms attached to the car and the conditions on your booking voucher are what the counter works from.
This grid opens on the zero deposit rates, the cars that place no hold whatsoever, and the counter above it says how many of them exist for your dates. Clear the filter to bring back the rest of the window, which held 81 cars when this page counted it, and move the dates to have everything repriced against your own trip.
People read the deposit as the cost of being trusted with the car, and then discover that four other numbers were doing quieter work. None of the five is set by this page. The right column says where each one is published for the car you are actually booking.
| Figure | What it actually is | Where you read it |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit hold | An amount blocked on the main driver's card for the length of the rental and released afterwards. It is not a charge, but it is money you cannot spend while it sits there. | Published against every car on this page before you commit, and read by the control above. |
| Damage excess | The most you can be asked to pay if the car is damaged. This is the one people confuse with the deposit, and removing the hold does not remove it. | In the cover section of the supplier terms shown with the car, then repeated on the voucher. |
| Fuel policy | Whether the car leaves full and comes back full, or leaves on a prepaid tank. A mismatch here is settled against your card after you fly home. | On the listing, and on the fuel line of the agreement you sign at handover. |
| Mileage allowance | Either unlimited or a daily cap with a charge per extra kilometre. In the current window 58 cars run unlimited, and the rest sit on a daily cap. | On the mileage line of each listing, which is worth reading before a long drive south. |
| Cancellation window | How late you can drop the booking without paying for it. 74 cars in the current window can be cancelled free of charge. | On the listing and in the confirmation email, with the deadline stated as a date rather than a number of days. |
Typical is not guaranteed. Supplier terms differ from one another and are updated without notice, so the conditions attached to your car and the ones printed on your voucher are what apply at the counter.
Every fixed number on this page comes from one place: a count of the Doha cars the booking widget returned in its first window. It is a snapshot, and the fleet moves with your dates and with the season, so the live control higher up the page is the figure to trust for your own trip. These four are here to show you the shape of the market before you start.

Doha Global Group publishes the deposit, the mileage allowance and the cancellation terms against every Doha car before you pay, so the ceiling you set is the ceiling you get.
